When it comes to decorating your bedroom, you want to come home to an inviting, warm, and relaxing space especially after a long day at work. It should be one of your favorite rooms in your home where you can unwind and really be yourself. A bedroom should flow with harmony and balance and a great place to start is your walls. An accent wall can be a perfect way to break up a large room, to emphasize a beautiful architectural feature, to create a focal point that instantly draws your eye, or to define an area in an open space plan. I’d like to show you some accent walls I really love to not only add spark to your bedroom décor, but also to accentuate your space. Since I love color so much, an accent wall is a great way to add a pop of color in your home without it being too much for you to handle. Check out these accent wall ideas below, share with friends, and let me know what you think!
Keep it Simple with One Bold Color
In the bedroom, a bold turquoise or dramatic bright pink can not only highlight architectural details of your room from wainscoting to peaked ceilings, but it can also create an exciting and invigorating mood in the space. Having an accent wall painted a bold color really makes a statement and draws your attention even if there is nothing else on the walls. If you aren’t ready to paint one of your walls a dramatic color, try a softer blue or gentle green to liven up your bedroom.
Bring in the Texture
There are so many options when it comes to texture and accent walls. Wood has always been a popular, natural material in the home and using wood paneling for accent walls is no exception. You can choose one wall in your bedroom and have the wood running horizontally or vertically. You can create this look by using wood from pallets or if you want a wood plank look, you can use wood in various sizes and depths. Choose a warm color stain for the wood and create a little variation in the tone for a unique look. You can even combine stained wood with painted wood to create visual interest.
Besides wood, stone and brick also provides interesting texture for accent walls. If you are lucky enough to have exposed brick or stone in your bedroom, make that the feature for your accent wall. If you don’t have any exposed brick or stone in your home, you can re-create the look by finding high quality, faux brick or stone wallpaper to achieve the same look. You can even paint textured brick or stone on your walls through the use of stencils.
Wallpaper with Patterns, Fabric, or Color
Wallpaper is something that many people are afraid of or they aren’t sure what to do with. If you are installing wallpaper yourself, the process of measuring, cutting, pasting, and hanging perfectly (making sure the pattern is aligned correctly) can be overwhelming. This includes peel and stick wallpaper and fabric wallpaper as well. If you just have one wall that you want to wallpaper, it will be a fun learning experience if you decide to DIY! Choose a print and color theme that really brings you joy and one which allows that paper or fabric to sparkle and shine. Alternatively, you can purchase wall stencils if you can’t find a patterned wallpaper that you really like. You can even get a paint roller with stencils on the roller to create a pattern or design if you don’t want to go through the hassle of hanging wallpaper.
Go Dramatic with a Wall Mural
On a similar note, a wall mural is a great way to create an accent wall and depending on what you choose, the mural can be romantic, architectural, tropical, artistic, or dramatic. The entire accent wall can be covered in a mural or a portion of the wall can display large decals that give you the same look as a full mural. Depending on your budget, you can hire an artist to create a unique design if you have a larger budget, or you can install wallpaper with designs of a beautiful night sky full of stars, a cityscape, an abstract creation, or a mysterious forest.
