You just purchased your first home and are super excited to decorate it and make it your own. You’re thinking Nate Berkus or Candice Olson designs, but, where do you start? Your excitement can wear off once you realize that it can be an overwhelming task to decorate your entire house but there is no rule that says you have to do it all at once. Take it one step at a time or one room at a time because you want to make sure you do it right at the budget you have set for yourself. Your home should reflect who you are so it’s important not to rush anything and to take your time. Here are some simple tips for how to decorate your first home one room at a time.
Start with a room that you use the most and make that a priority. Perhaps your bedroom is where you spend most of your time and you want to start there. When I started decorating my first home, it took me a year to complete the design for my entire house. I took it slowly. I didn’t rush out to purchase furniture, paint the walls, or accessorize. I took it one step at a time, even if it was slow. I made a note of anything I liked such as colors, furnishings, accessories, lighting, artwork, and more from looking at magazines, reading design books, whenever I was out with friends, shopping, traveling, dinner, etc..I started with my bedroom as I needed new bedroom furniture and that was a priority for me. I had a budget in mind and I made sure I stuck to my budget as much as possible. I ended up with a simple and peaceful bedroom that I felt comfortable with.
