Fall is fast approaching and what better way to update your home for the fall season than by incorporating fall fashion trends into your home decor? From statement fur to streetwear, fuzzy shearlings, florals, and sequins, see what’s trending for fall fashion and see how you can include them in your fall home decor.
Velvet ruled the fashion runways and is fall’s hottest textile for 2016, especially bold colored velvet from emerald greens, to golden yellows and royal blues. Designers gave the luxurious fabric a nice update by incorporating velvet into jumpsuits, dresses, jackets, and shoes. Velvet looks and feels elegant not only in fashion but also in home decor. If you have an outdated sofa or chair, reupholster them with colorful velvet. Replace your summer light weight window treatments with rich velvet drapes and add velvet pillows to your bedroom for an elegant experience.
Plaid isn’t new but has always been around and maintained its popularity in fashion. One of my favorite tops that I wear often is a pink and tan plaid collared shirt. For Fall 2016, the top fashion designers used plaid from outerwear to dresses and scarves that walked the line between masculinity and femininity. You can add plaid to your home decor by updating your bedding to plaid sheets and duvet covers, adding plaid throw blankets on your sofa, placing a plaid runner on your stairs, or displaying plaid dinnerware for your table setting.
Hoodies, beanies, baggy pants, sweats, and sneakers are making a fashionable comeback but is still more popular outside of the shows than on the runways of London, Milan, and Paris. Streetwear is nothing new as we have seen it since the 80’s from surfers to skaters. It’s perfect for fall since it’s so casual, comfy, and warm for the autumn season yet is a stylish fashion trend. If you are feeling courageous, hang a pendant light adorned in street art or create your own DIY graffiti artwork, switch plate cover, or cabinet knobs. You can get your creative juices with small DIY projects that are fun for family and friends.
Pink and Yellow
Pink and yellow as fall fashion colors? It’s not often that designers use bright colors into their fall collections but some designers decided to go for it. The color combination is a nice contrast compared to the rich browns and darker hues we normally see during the fall season. Add pink or yellow poufs to your kids room. Hang framed prints in pinks and yellows to your art collection. Paint your dining chairs or sofa legs yellow against a chocolate brown fabric for a pop of color. Mix in fall colors such as rich browns and rust orange with subtle pinks and yellows if you aren’t ready to go out on a larger scale.
Patent Leather & Vinyl
Patent leather is a big trend for fall fashion and designers experimented with glossy, high shine materials to create pants, skirts, trenches, and tops for a sexy chic and super slick effect. Your first thought probably isn’t about how you can include patent leather and vinyl in your home, but it can add some shine and dazzle in your home decor. Reupholster your headboard or bench in vibrant vinyl, hang a shiny pendant light covered in patent leather, or place accessories such as shiny faux leather covered books to your home office. If that is too much, start small. Add pillows trimmed with patent leather for a pop of color and gloss.
Shearlings from long coats, vests, bomber and denim jackets in cropped or cocoon shapes were everywhere at the New York Fashion Week. Designers gave shearlings a makeover in so many different colors and cuts from looks that ranged from sporty to casual, hippy chic, modern, and retro. You can incorporate sheepskin materials and bring some of that fall fashion trend into your home decor. Add shearling stools to your living room or bedroom vanity, a shearling rug in your home office, or pillow covers and throw blankets made from faux sheepskin. You can even create picture frames covered in sheepskin fabric as a DIY project with family and friends.
