If you are finally taking on the task of getting rid of clutter and organizing your space this year, before you decide to give old items away, see if you can come up with creative ways to upcycle it and make it unique! Re-purposing an old item into something new and different is becoming quite a popular trend these days. Don’t think you have a use for old plastic folding chairs or old hangers? Think again! So, don’t throw away those used wine bottles just yet. You can upcycle them into light fixtures, wall decor, or accessories for the home. Below are some great ideas for re-purposing your give-away items into something stylish, fun, and creative!
Use wine corks as mini planters
Hollow out old corks to create miniature planters. You can even paint the corks in different colors and create patterns to make it sparkle!
Convert Tennis Rackets into mirrors and wall decor
Take your old tennis rackets and create artwork out of them or convert into stylish mirrors.
Turn your old bike into a vanity sink
Now, this is very creative. Convert your old bike into a bathroom vanity sink if it fits the space. Who would have thought of that? Benjamin Bullins did and what a great idea it is!
Reuse your old shirt or sweater as a pillow cover.
Turn those graphic t-shirts or old style sweaters that you never wear anymore or doesn’t fit you into a stylish pillow cover.
Use old books as shelves
I like this idea and will try it myself. Take old hardback books and make shelves out of it. You can put a few side by side to make a longer shelf or just use one by itself.
Re-purpose a worn out coffee table into an upholstered ottoman
Have an old coffee table that is scratched and worn out? No problem. Convert it into a beautiful upholstered ottoman.
Refresh an old bookcase
Take an old antique or IKEA book case and paint it a fun color. Line the interior with fabric, wallpaper, or your favorite prints.
Use paint swatches to create a work of art or to wrap presents
You can do pretty much anything with paint chips. Cut them up into any shape you like to create the pattern you want and convert into artwork or use as a decorative wrapping paper.
Convert old suitcases to side tables
I love vintage suitcases, especially when they can be re-purposed into shelves, side tables, coffee tables, or chairs. Next time I’m at the flea market, I will be on the lookout for suitcases!
Create a table lamp from a vintage fan
What a unique vintage table lamp converted from a 1950’s fan with vintage Edison bulbs! It’s a statement piece I would definitely incorporate in my designs.
Use old buttons to create a unique one of a kind bowl
This is such a creative idea, but seems hard to actually recreate. Try taking all your buttons and gluing it onto an old small bowl or plate to begin with and see how it goes.
