Now that daylight savings time has kicked in, we all know that it’s the start of spring. Who doesn’t love spring? The days get longer, the weather warmer, flowers start to bloom, plants grow, and people are in a better, happier mood. Spring signifies rebirth, so what better way to generate positive energy and renewal than by giving your home a spring refresh? Whether it’s decluttering by cleaning your closet, creating a bold floral accent wall, swapping out your bedsheets and drapes, or incorporating colorful accessories, it’s time for a change. I like to start on a smaller scale. I’ll be painting my boring gray entrance door to a beautiful rich eggplant color. I’m looking forward to the transformation. Here are a few simple and affordable ideas to help you freshen up your home with spring decor.
Flowers & Plants
Spring is all about colorful flowers and green plants. Plus it’s a part of mother earth, so bring nature indoors by adding a fresh bouquet of mixed flowers on your coffee table, plants on your coffee table, or orchids by your bedside table. It not only adds a splash of color to your home, but flowers fill your space with a lovely fragrance and plants help filter out pollutants and provide oxygen which in turn cleans the air indoors.
Create an accent wall with a soft blue pastel color or a bold wallpaper. It will definitely be a conversation starter in your home. Go with geometric patterns, stripes, tropical, abstract designs in a rich color, or a bold moody wallpaper that will make a major dramatic statement like this dark floral wallpaper by Ellie.
Tired of your cabinet hardware? Replace your kitchen, bath, or dresser hardware with fun colorful knobs or pulls such as agate, glass, floral prints, or handpainted artistic designs on ceramic. Hardware comes in all kinds of shapes and sizes so mix it up with various materials and colors for interest and visual appeal. For example, if you want something fun with a lot of contrast for your dresser, an agate knob from Anthropologie in various shapes and colors would be a great way to dress up your dresser.
Change out your flannel or wool winter bedsheets with cotton, linen, or sateen in solid pastels or geometric, floral, or polka dot patterns. Bring in texture with fringe, faux fur, or ruffles. It’ll give your bedroom a light, airy, sexy, and fun mood which is what the bedroom should be all about.
Display pops of colorful accessories throughout your space from artwork to throw pillows, trays, vases, baskets, and frames. Place a woven basket of your favorite magazines or books with colorful tassles (a popular 2018 trend) by your sofa or bed. Style your coffee table with a glass painted tray of vibrant blues. Showcase beautiful flower arrangements in colorful hand painted ceramic vases on your breakfast table. Display pops of green with potted plants inside cute giraffe planter.
Organize & Clean
It’s time to declutter and clear out old items that have been in your closet or on your shelves for way too long. If you are holding on to anything that no longer serves you in a positive way, it’s time to let it go. Bring in the new by getting rid of the old. Arrange items on your bookshelf, toss clothes you never wear anymore, clear out old paperwork from your office, organize your pantry with fun storage boxes by Kate Spade, clean the corner space full of accumulated items, etc.. By clearing out old stuff, you make room for positive energy to flow through your home and more importantly through yourself. It’s time for your spring renewal!
Take down your current drapes and put up sheer curtains for a soft, airy and open look and feel. If you have a great view of a garden or an ocean from your living room, sheer drapes are perfect. It’s sheer enough to see through and doesn’t detract from the beautiful view. You can hang sheer drapes in solid pastel colors, with large floral designs, or with pom poms on the edges for a fun appeal. If you have sheer drapes in your bedroom and need more privacy, combine sheer drapes with roman shades. That way, you can create privacy at night and openness during the day.
