Did you know that the color red can increase energy not only to your physical space but to your mental space? If you are experiencing a lack of energy, the high vibration of red can rejuvenate you and raise your spirit. There’s something about the color red that stimulates our senses and brings up feelings of excitement, boldness, passion, and increased enthusiasm. It’s a popular color, especially in the month of February in celebration of Valentine’s Day.
To walk into a space and instantly experience an increase in energy level physically and mentally, (especially positive energy) is a good thing. In the living room or dining room, red can draw people together and stimulate thought-provoking conversations. In an entryway it creates a strong first impression that can deliver a “wow” factor instantly lifting up your energy. Most people shy away from using red in their space, sticking to safe and neutral colors such as white, gray, beige, or black. However, there are some beautiful, striking, and vivid designs using red that energizes us, which in turn leads to inspiration and creativity, helping us to tackle our goals. If you want to increase the energy level in your space and your vibration, here are 5 tips for helping you do that with the color red.
1. Increase Energy Through Paint on Walls or Ceiling
In your living room or dining room, painting your walls red can draw people together and stimulate intellectual conversations. Splashing red to your walls in the entryway creates a strong first impression that can deliver a “wow” statement instantly lifting up your energy. Painting your ceiling red in your bedroom creates visual interest which can increase passion and excitement in your life.
2. Create a Focal Point through the Use of Area Rugs
Incorporate a solid or patterned red area rug to your living room and bedroom or a runner to your staircase keeping the walls and the rest of your furniture simple and neutral. The area rug creates a focal point when the rest of the surrounding pieces are subtle and doesn’t compete with the area rug for attention. There’s nothing quite like walking into a room and your eye being drawn to a beautiful red Persian rug that makes you go “wow”. Having a focal point helps increase your energy level and stimulate your senses.
3. Make A Statement With One Piece of Furniture
If you have a favorite chair, cabinet, or artwork that is red, it can be a statement piece in your space. You can also reupholster an existing chair or paint stools in red if they are a different color. A red sofa for example in this image below makes a bold statement in this living room. You’ll notice that the artwork, rug, walls, and other furniture in the space doesn’t compete with the red sofa. The sofa speaks for itself. In your bedroom, add a red head board against a fun patterned wall paper for a bold statement or incorporate a pop of red to your neutral kitchen with red bar stools.
4. Add Different Shades of Red for Visual Interest
Create a red monochromatic color scheme by using different shades of red throughout one room whether it’s a small corner nook, kid’s play room, or home office workspace. You can use red, magenta, and burgundy as different variations of the color red to add visual interest to your space. There are over 40 shades of red which can be overwhelming. I recommend using 3-4 various shades so it doesn’t become distracting and doesn’t over power the rest of the pieces in the room.
5. Create Contrast by Using Red
To create contrast and visual interest in a space contrast Red with Navy, Black, White, Chocolate Brown, Gray, or Forest Green. These colors are perfect color combinations to red. You can paint your trims red to contrast against neutral walls, hang red fabric as artwork against navy, or add a pop of red against black kitchen cabinets. A pop of red that creates contrast has an energetic vibration that lifts up your spirit.
