5 Ideas For Creating A Cozy Fall Outdoor Space

Fall season is here with beautiful warm golden foliage, crisp mornings, and harvest festivals. Your outdoor space isn’t just great for warm summer months.  With autumn here, what better way to transition into fall than by sprucing up your outdoor space?  Adorn your porch, patio, or backyard with plush pillows, warm autumn color, cozy fire-pits, and beautiful elegant lanterns that will be sure to entertain family and friends. Below are 5 tips for creating a cozy fall outdoor space.

Swinging Daybed or Chair

Can you imagine the ultimate comfort?  Lounging on a swinging daybed engulfed in a pile of soft pillows while your daybed is moving softly lulling you into pleasant dreams sounds like pure heaven. Hang a swinging daybed like this Malia Hanging Daybed from Front Gate or this double hanging rattan chair from Serena & Lily on your front or back patio and adorn with a sheepskin throw and several plush pillows for keeping you cozy and warm during the autumn breeze. What a perfect way to enjoy a beautiful Sunday afternoon outdoors especially during the fall season.  Sip on apple cider and breathe in all nature has to offer.

Fall-hued Colors

Rich chocolate browns, deep intimate reds, bold purples, rust tones, and gold colors represent fall so update your outdoor space with these wonderful colors.  Swap out your summer textiles with fall-hued colors. Paint your patio a rich deep brown, add hanging planters in warm reds, adorn your wicker chairs with rust or deep purple cushions and pillows. Add patterns. Whatever you do, include the wonderful richness and coziness of fall colors to your outdoor space!

Plush pillows

There’s nothing quite like sinking into an outdoor sectional or accent chair filled with soft plush pillows and comfy cushions.  Accessorize your outdoor daybed, wicker chair, adinrondack chairs, or loveseat with soft velvet, plaid fleece, soft shag, or textured faux fur pillows.  Check out this elegant Indochine pillow or Chinchilla pillow from Zgallerie. Doesn’t it make you want to melt into those pillows covered in a sheepskin or velvet throw?

Fire-pit

If you don’t have an outdoor fireplace and don’t have the budget to add one, include a fire pit instead.  It’s great for keeping warm while entertaining family and friends outdoors and creates a homey and intimate setting for great conversations.  It’s also a perfect centerpiece to your outdoor space, especially surrounded by cozy, luxurious seating area. There are many different kinds of fire-pits such as built in fire pits, mobile fire pits, sunken fire pits, open fire pits, stone fire pits, and more.  Figure out which style best fits your outdoor space and decor and get ready to entertain!

Lanterns

Lighting is one of the easiest and affordable ways to cast an enchanting spell on any outdoor space. If you want to illuminate a setting and create a distinctive mood, light up your outdoor space with elegant lanterns. Hanging, sitting, or standing lanterns provide a cozy intimate environment for your outdoor space.  You can place kerosene lanterns on your outdoor table which are easy to fill and light and provide the same warm glow as candles.  You can also hang lanterns by their handles at several points on your terrace or in your garden or create a focal point with one hanging lantern like this Bolton Indoor/Outdoor Lantern from Pottery Barn. Accessorizing your outdoor space with lanterns can create a beautiful glow and a warm inviting atmosphere for entertaining.

Adding these simple ideas will keep you, your family and friends outside longer by making it more cozy and inviting as we approach cool fall nights. If you need help decorating or designing your outdoor space, please give me a call!
