Summer has arrived and it’s time to think about how to spruce up your outdoor decor. Whether it’s replacing old furniture, bringing in more color, gardening, or adding landscape lights, it’s a perfect time to start. But, what if you don’t have a backyard or a patio? Not everyone lives in a home that has a backyard or patio. For those of you who don’t have the luxury of having an outdoor space to entertain family or friends or enjoy the benefit of lounging outside to admire the beautiful landscape, you can still bring the decor and fun indoors. You can transform your interior space into an outdoor oasis full of colors, nature, texture, and light. Here are some ideas to bring sound, sight, touch, and smell of the outdoor experience into your very own living space!
Fragrant Flowers & Plants
What’s better than coming home to a relaxing, beautiful, and fragrant home as if you just stepped out in nature? Surround yourself with flowers, plants, succulents, bonsai trees, or cacti and watch your home transform into a lovely garden. Plus, indoor plants are very beneficial and a positive force. They are living organisms that remove pollutants from the air by absorbing gases (such as carbon dioxide) through their leaves and roots. Perhaps that is why when most people take a walk outside or go hiking, it feels so calming and soothing to the soul and instantly lifts the spirit.
Pillows, Cushions, and Beanbags
Nature is all about bright colors from oranges to blues, violets, greens, reds, and yellows like the colors of the rainbow. So why not bring the colors of nature into your home or office space by including vibrant throw pillows, beanbags, or floor cushions in large or small scale patterns? Beanbags and floor cushions are perfect for additional seating when entertaining family or friends and throw pillows create a comfortable and cozy environment to relax and unwind with the people you care about most.
When most people think of outdoor furniture, they think of wicker or rattan furniture. There is a difference between the two. Rattan is an actual material while wicker is the process to make it. Replace your dining chair or add a side chair in your living room with a wicker chair in a vibrant color. You can spray paint your wicker furniture a fun color if you don’t like the standard brown or white color that it normally comes in. Another fun way to include rattan in your space is by incorporating a hanging chair. Rattan also adds texture to your space and has a nice touch when you run your hands along the material which is full of rich details. Incorporating wicker furniture indoors can create the feeling that you actually have a patio or backyard that is situated inside.
Garden stools are so much fun. They come in all kinds of colors, shapes, materials, and sizes. You can have a 2 tone ceramic garden stool, a stool shape as an elephant, a round stool, a rectangular stool, cement stools, and much more. They can function as both a small side table or coffee table to set your drinks on or as additional seating. Choose one or a few that fits your interior decor and color scheme and get ready to entertain your family and friends!
Wind Chimes/Indoor Fountains
The outdoors is all about experiencing nature, especially the sound of nature. When I go hiking, I love to hear birds chirping and the sound of water flowing across rivers or trickling down creeks amidst the silent communication of the beautiful redwoods and trees. You can bring the sound of the outdoors indoors by hanging wind chimes or adding a table top fountain to simulate the sound of trickling water. What a great way to bring nature indoors and create a soothing and relaxing oasis.
Create the right mood and setting with decorative lights. You can hang paper lanterns, string glass bulbs, cotton light bulbs, or light candles around your home and watch it brighten up your space creating the perfect mood for the evening. At night, the lights generate an intimate setting with your family and friends and it’s perfect for entertaining!
